Underground parking in Town Hall which is worth 14 crore rupees is now to be handled by Home Guards. Following the news of the parking zone to be locked up after facing issues with the contractor, it was decided to operate the parking zone with the help of Home Guards.

Contractors responsible for the construction of underground parking zone alleged that due to vehicles being parked in public places, parking zone is being ignored and is not being utilised for the purpose it is meant for. This has resulted in failure of income hence obstructing the maintenance of parking zone. Since no vehicles are parked in this underground parking area, it was decided to close down the zone.

Commissioner Siddharth Sihag said that Home Guards will be appointed for the underground parking zone who will assure that public parks their vehicles inside the zone and not at any of the public places. He also said that a new tender process will be carried out for underground parking area. Until then, Home Guards will take care on the pre-decided parking fees. Commissioner also laid emphasis on the fact that strict action will be taken against those who park their vehicles elsewhere instead of parking in the zone. Police force has also been asked to assist in this matter.

It was also decided that since the city is short of cranes, Municipal Corporation is planning to buy more cranes to tow away illegally parked vehicles. Steps must be taken to put the underground parking zone into proper use. If this does not happen, the project which is worth a massive amount will go waste. Illegal parking reduces the importance of Udaipur as smart-city.
