Maharana Arvind Singh Mewar, custodian of the Royal Family of Udaipur has been honored with the prestigious
8th Women Together Award for “Contribution to Universal Culture of the United Nations”. This acknowledgment has been given for his work through the Maharana Mewar Charitable Foundation (MMCF). According to
NYDailyNews.com Arvind Singh, Chairman and Managing Director of MMCF will be felicitated at the UN General Assembly in New York on June 5, 2012. He is the second Indian to be honored with this award after Ela Bhatt. The MMCF has been selected collectively by the Women Together (WT), a non-government organization in joint association with the UN. WT is also a part of the Economical and Social Council of UN (ECOSOC).
Founded in 1969, MMCF is an organization set up by the Royal Family of Mewar with a purpose to contribute towards humanity. The organization has taken over 32 projects which include Education, Environment, Philanthropy and Conservation of Heritage Properties. According to one of the officials, individuals and organizations who have set up a great example of supremacy to contribute in making the world a better place which is also the UN Millennium Development Goals. Maharana Arvind Singh Mewar’s contribution towards strengthening Universal culture through MMCF has been appreciated in the form of this award. Queen Rania of Jordan, Wangari Maathai, Isabel Yanguas, Shirin Ebadi, Barbara Probst Solomon, Louise Bourgeois, Violy McCauslant, Mario Testio, Silvia Earle, Shakira, Antonio Banderas, Katie Ford, Agatha Ruiz de la Parada, and Gaetana Enders (Mary Robinson) and Ela Bhatt are some of the individuals to get this award. Besides, companies and institutions like Grameen Bank, La Caixa Foundation, Aveda, Banco Santander, Toyota, Mango and Mario Santo Domingo Foundation have also bagged the award in the past.
