To ensure the safety of school children, the Education Department has issued new guidelines for renovating unsafe school buildings across the state, including the Udaipur district.
Renovation and New Construction Plans
Secretary to Government, Women & Child Development Department and Panchayati Raj Krishna Kunal has directed all district education officers to start renovating existing school buildings, allocate land for new schools, and construct new buildings.
Land Allocation for Schools
District education officers have been instructed to work with the District Collector and the Revenue Department to secure the necessary land for schools that currently lack proper buildings. Until new buildings are constructed, arrangements must be made for alternative safe locations for classes.
Immediate Actions in Udaipur
In Udaipur district, many school buildings are in a state of disrepair, particularly in areas like Kotda, Jhadol, and Girwa. In Kotda, a school building collapsed during the 2023 rains, leading parents and villagers to build a temporary bamboo and wood shelter for the 51 affected students. Currently, about 560 schools in Udaipur are in extremely poor conditions, with another 1,500 in a deteriorating state.
The Education Secretary has emphasized that no classes should be conducted in the open, in huts, under trees, or in any unsafe locations. To prepare for the rainy season, schools are directed to clean roofs, clear blocked roof drains, and repair broken pipes of rainwater drains.
