Water sports academy which is soon to start in the city will also have 10 sports training courses and  professional courses which will give lessons on how to deal with emergencies pertaining to water.

It is mandatory for the employees to undergo training for posts of life-guards, boat-operators, divers, rescue teams and attain certificates for the same. Presently none of the members have attained authorisation from any institute. The district administration’s proposal for water sports academy is already in the pipeline.  Declaration for the water sports academy will be made in the forthcoming budget.  For the academy, 25 athletes will be chosen on the basis of trial from the region. Boarding, lodging, sports kit, school uniform and educational and other expenses will also be taken care of in the academy.

The fee structure for the skill courses will be 5 thousand to 6 thousand rupees. For the boating operation, fee would be 4500/- to 5000/- in the category of professional courses. Similarly for other professional courses, fee would be 1000 to 12000 for life guard, administration and management 3000 to 12000 rupees. The duration of the courses would be 5 to 30 days.

The academy will have 2 male trainers, 1 female trainer, 2 boat operators and 1 hostel superintendent.

The various courses proposed are kayaking, canoeing, dragon-boat, sailing, rowing, tube-skiing, jet-skiing, water-skiing, wind-surfing and dinghy sailing.

For the employees :  boat-handling, remote control power boat handling, jet-ski and para sailing operations.

Life-guard, life saving techniques, pool life guards, water park life guards, beach life guards, sea-rescue and operation courses and boat repair, water sports management communication skills courses will also be provided.
