West Asia War: US-Iran Review 'Islamabad Accord' for Immediate Ceasefire
Iran and the US review a two-tier truce plan featuring a ceasefire and long-term comprehensive agreement; Trump warns of escalation as tensions rise
April 6, 2026 – Iran and the US are reviewing a draft of the truce plan prepared by Pakistan, says a Reuters report quoting a source. A two-tier deal plant is being referred to as the “Islamabad Accord” and includes an immediate ceasefire and a broader agreement thereafter. There is, however, no confirmation of the same by either Iran or the US.
According to the report, Pakistan Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir has been in constant talks with US Vice President JD Vance, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Aragchi and special envoy Steve Witkoff to bring the two sides to the table and end the conflict ongoing from February 28, 2026.
Iran is demanding a permanent ceasefire with a guarantee of no future attacks by the US or Israel. It has reportedly also asserted that in case of a temporary ceasefire it would not allow the opening of the Strait of Hormuz. In exchange for a permanent truce, the US is likely to seek a guarantee from Iran of not making nuclear weapons.
While talks for a ceasefire are ongoing, US President Donald Trump has threatened of “raining down hell” on Iran if the deal falls through.
Meanwhile, Trump is scheduled to address the media at 10:30 pm (IST) on Monday (April 6) on the ongoing conflict and is likely to speak about the rescue of the two USAF pilots after their F-15E jet was downed by Iran.
In another development, Majid Khademi, head of the Revolutionary Guards’ intelligence organisation, was killed early Monday during a “terrorist attack by the American-Zionist enemy”, as reported by Iranian media.
