HSRP mandate in Rajasthan

High Security number plate

Udaipur, December 19,2024 - The deadline for installing High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP) on vehicles in Rajasthan was extended multiple times. Initially, it was set to be mandatory after June 30. However, the deadline was extended first to July 31 and then to August 10. Eventually, the mandate was revoked.

Opportunity to Update Vehicle Records
Though the HSRP system could not be fully enforced, it provided a chance to update vehicle records. Many vehicle owners renewed their registration or transferred vehicles from other districts or states to the local transport office. This helped update thousands of vehicle records in the state.

Record Updates in Udaipur District
Over the past ten months, 13,286 vehicle owners in Udaipur district have updated their vehicle records. It is believed that all these vehicles now have HSRP installed.

HSRP Registration Process
Earlier this year, the Rajasthan Transport Department made HSRP mandatory. The process began from February 29 and was scheduled to continue until June 30. The process was based on vehicle registration number series and was applicable to vehicles registered before April 1, 2019. However, many vehicle records were not updated in the department's portal, causing delays in the registration process.

Large Number of Vehicles Without HSRP
There are around 32 lakh vehicles in Rajasthan, both small and large. Despite the efforts, most of these vehicles still do not have HSRP. The BJP government, which came to power in December 2023, issued directives to install HSRP on vehicles.
