Udaipur, March 25, 2025: Vice President of India, Jagdeep Dhankhar, hailed the Chief Justice of India, Justice Sanjiv Khanna for the transparency and accountability advocated when the Supreme Court shared all material including the alleged cash recovery related to the in-house procedure against Delhi High Court Judge Justice Yashwant Verma.

The Vice President, also the Chairperson of the Rajya Sabha said that it is for the first time since independence, that a CJI advocated such transparency and accountability, by putting all material available to the Court in public domain. Calling it a step in th right direction, the VP said that institutions like the judiciary and legislature best serve their purpose when their in-house mechanism is swift, effective and upholds public trust.

He made these statements on the sidelines of a meeting with Leader of House, JP Nadda and Leader of Opposition, Mallikarjun Kharge. The matter related to Justice Verma was raised by INC leader Jairam Ramesh on March 21. 

The VP also acknowledged suggestions from INC Chief Mallikarjun Kharge, where he advocated the inclusion of floor leaders of the states in Parliament, which is in line with Parliamentary practice. Dhankhar said that he woud soon call upon the floor leaders to be a part of this discussion after the Parliamentary Committee set up for looking into the allegations against Justice Verma submits its report. This committe, consisting of the Chief Justices of the Punjab & Haryana High Court and High Court of Himachal Pradesh and a Judge of the High Court of Karnataka, was formed after the Chief Justice of Delhi High Court submitted his report.
