For the second consecutive day, opposition MPs walked out of the meeting of the Joint Committee of Parliament on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill accusing BJP members of using objectionable language for them.
They had also left the meeting on Monday, October 14, protesting a comment made by a former office-bearer of the Karnataka State Minorities Commission and BJP leader about Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge over Waqf land allotment.
On Tuesday, October 15, the committee was expecting oral evidence from officials of the Ministry of Minority Affairs on the Bill.
The Opposition members said that Kharge’s name should not be used because he was not a member of the panel and that the chairman should not allow the comments.
However, MPs from the ruling side traded blame alleging that Opposition members had used derogatory language against panel chairman BJP’s Jagdambika Pal.
