West Asia War Day 27: US & Iran Trade Threats Amid Rumours of Talks
West Asia war enters Day 27 with US warning Iran of stronger action; Iran continues strikes on Israel and Gulf nations as oil prices surge past $102 and Hormuz tensions rise
March 26, 2026 – As the West Asia war enters its 27th day, US warns Iran to accept defeat or be hit harder but Iran ignores the threat and continues striking Israel and the neighbouring Gulf nations.
Contradictory statements are coming out of both the US and Iran.
US President Donald Trump says, "They are negotiating, by the way, and they want to make a deal so badly. But they're afraid to say it, because they figure they'll be killed by their own people...."They're also afraid they'll be killed by us".
However, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on State TV that they were reviewing the proposal by Trump but had no intentions of accepting talks to end the conflict.
On the other hand, the White House on Thursday (March 26) dismissed reports of possible peace talks between the two warring countries in Pakistan. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt called them as "speculation".
On Wednesday, there were reports that Iran had indicated to the US that they preferred negotiating with Vice President JD Vance rather than with Trump's special envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
Other reports doing the rounds were that Iran's Parliament Speaker, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, is the Trump administration's interlocutor in the ongoing "talks".
With so much of uncertainty in the region, oil prices surged with Brent crude closing above $102 per barrel. A few oil tankers have reportedly been allowed through the Strait of Hormuz by Iran, through what is dubbed as “Tehran Toll Booth” with rumours of Iran charging $2 million to provide safe passage.
Meanwhile, Iran has launched a wave of missiles towards Iran, the second salvo in less than 30 minutes, according to Israeli army. Bahrain, Kuwait, UAE and Saudi Arabia report intercepting more missiles and drones launched by Iran
The IRGC has issued a sharp warning to US-Israel against any potential ground operation inside Iranian territory. This comes on the back of reports that the Pentagon may deploy elements of the 82nd Airborne Division to the Middle East, including a command component and ground forces.
UN chief Antonio Guterres has expressed concern over the deteriorating “out of control” situation in the Middle East.
