West Bengal Phase 2 Voting Begins: Mamata vs Adhikari Showdown

Phase 2 voting in West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026 is underway across 142 seats including Kolkata; key focus on Mamata Banerjee vs Suvendu Adhikari in Bhabanipur

April 29, 2026 - West Bengal is voting today, April 29, in the second and last phase of the Assembly elections in the State. Voting is underway in 142 of the 294 seats with the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) head on in a do-or-die battle with the BJP. Congress and CPI(M) are also in the fray but the major contest is between TMC and BJP. 

All eyes today are on the Bhabanipur constituency with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee locked in a fierce contest with BJP’s Suvendu Adhikari.

Voting began at 7:00 am and until 9:00 am, the voter turnout was 18.39%.

The second phase includes 11 seats from the capital city of Kolkata. North 24 Parganas has 33, South 24 Parganas 31, Nadia 17, Howrah 16, Hooghly 18, while Purba Bardhaman has 16. Eligible voters in today’s phase are 3.22 crore.

The first phase of voting for 152 constituencies was on April 23. It saw a record-breaking voter participation at 92.9%, the highest-ever polling percentage since Independence.  

Counting of votes for both the phases will be on May 4, 2026.
