Love Birds Disappeared from Gulab Bagh Zoo: Follow up
While there is no trace of the missing birds and the investigation of the officials leading nowhere, a new controversy of the number of birds started. According to the zoo inventory report initially there were 46 love birds (Budgerigar) in the zoo when caretaker Murli handed over the charge of the birds to the zoo officials (the original report was allegedly manipulated after the news came in media). However, only 7 birds were seen in the cage on 01.12.12. This means that 39 birds were missing. On the same day, 12 birds were brought from outside by some department workers and left into the cage increasing the number to 19. Officials then confirmed the figure of 19 birds on media record on 02.12.12. Thereafter, 2-3 birds died leaving the number of the remaining birds around 16-17. Even now love birds in the cage are not more than 16-17 presently in Gulab Bagh Zoo, while the “office order” copy is telling a different story. The department on its part says that quite a few birds might have been eaten by rats. The matter is still under investigation.
Office Order on Missing Birds The office order copy is saying that there were 7 birds seen in the morning of 01.01.12 and in the afternoon there were 47 birds leaving a big question mark on the face of the forest officials.
