A woman got robbed off one lakh rupees by following caller’s instructions wherein he asked her to link her mobile number with Adhaar card. The caller transferred one lakh rupees from ICICI account of Manju Lodha resident of Bhupalpura using UPI app.

Manju Lodha received a call in which a youth asked her to link her mobile number with Adhaar card. He sent her a message and asked her to send that message to 121. Trusting that it was a genuine call, Manju Lodha sent that message at 121 as instructed by the caller. Immediately after she had sent the message, her mobile stopped working. 2 days later, Manju’s son received a mail stating that the ATM card of his mother was blocked. When he went to enquire the same with ICICI Bank, he came to know that an amount of 99 thousand 996 rupees was withdrawn from his mother’s account. Police is now investigating the matter based on bank details.

As per cyber expert Shyam Chandel, callers can dupe anyone by telling them that their sim card is going to be locked and that they should send a message to 121 to have a new sim card. Little does anyone know that the message actually deactivates their existing sim card. These fraudsters actually take a new sim with that particular number. Then they rob all the accounts where this mobile number is registered. An OTP helps them access the accounts and they transfer all the money into their own accounts.

UPI is basically a government application which works as a gateway similar to PayTm. An account is created at UPI app and UPI number is the mobile number of the person. Through this number money can be transferred.

Public needs to be alert when receiving such calls. No bank or government officials or cellular service providers will ever give you a call asking you to link your mobile numbers with any account through mobile messages. Any calls asking you to give details of Adhaar card or any other such facility are actually going to rob you off your hard earned money…DO NOT ENTERTAIN SUCH CALLS.
