Atifete Jahjaga, a Police Chief of Kosovo is appointed as the new President of the country. Atifete, in her late thirties, is the
first female president of Kosovo a tiny nation in Balkans, Europe. The country has population of nearly 2 million. According to a
German website US mediated the appointment of Atifete.

The process was so swift that it was executed within 24 hours. Aifete won by 80 votes in 120 member’s parliament, where only 100 people voted. According to some news channels, Atifete never possessed any political designation earlier nor she was ever related to any political party, but she was always determined to serve the best interests of the country. When the country is still in the recovery process from the clutches of Serbia (Kosovo just got freedom from Serbia in 2008), she ensured that best measures would be picked to uplift the country. The German website says ,
“Kosovo was left without any president last month. Behgjet Pacolli, the former head of the country proved himself an inept option for the country. Prime Minister Hashim Thaci’s Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) and its coalition partner, the New Kosovo Alliance (AKR), agreed to install Jahjaga as a compromise candidate.” Few electoral or constitutional were also introduced. Direct Presidential elections would be held in 2012 and Parliamentary Elections would be open in 2013.
