In preparation for the 2023 State Assembly General Elections, specialized training sessions were held on Saturday, October 14, 2023 at Fateh School for polling teams designated for women, individuals with disabilities, and youth. Additional District Magistrate (ADM) and Assistant District Election Officer Shailesh Surana engaged with the trainees. During these sessions, he discussed the election guidelines provided by the Election Department and the training led by experienced instructors.
Mr. Surana stressed the importance of conducting the election process with confidence, independence, impartiality, and in a peaceful manner, based on the knowledge and skills acquired during the training. Jitendra Kumar Ojha, the training coordinator, revealed that for this election process, women will be in charge of overseeing all operations at the 8 polling centers within each legislative assembly constituency. These polling centers will feature women in various roles, including presiding officers, as well as first, second, and third polling officers, in addition to other support staff.
These voting centers will be known as "Sakhi Polling Centers." Dr. Mahamaya Prasad Chaubisa, a state-level expert, conducted comprehensive training sessions for all these women. They were trained in both the practical and theoretical aspects of operating Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and received information on vital aspects in alignment with the guidelines set forth by the Election Department.
Dr. Chaubisa mentioned that they also conducted similar training for the polling booths designated for people with disabilities. In each legislative assembly, there will be one polling center entirely staffed by individuals with disabilities, responsible for election-related tasks. Additionally, a training program was organized for the remaining presiding officers, first, second, and third polling officers at Meera College.
