NGO ‘Vikalp’, which works in the field of Women Empowerment, organized an Awareness Program with the Police Officials at the Police Conference Hall today, on Women Desk and issues of women cruelty at home and outside, and ways to empower women by spreading awareness about their rights and power.

Usha, a member of the NGO, who took the meeting with the police officials, told that women are suffering on all grounds, whether it is at home or outside. Unawareness among the women and fear of society as well as police is the main cause of their suffering, because many a times women are not able to express their grievances publically.

In this meeting, police officers from almost 18 police stations participated. Usha, while addressing the police officials of the “Mahila (Woman)Desk”, said that cruelty on women is an abuse to Women’s Human Rights. She said that cruelty on women had rapidly increased in last 10 years. She added that according to the National Crime Bureau, Domestic violence on women has increased extremely in the past few years.

She informed about the decision taken in the meeting that execution of “Mahila Desk” has to be taken on priority.

A police official complained that on a Mahila Desk, only one ASI, one Lady Constable and one member of NGO of related field is posted and burden of work is hefty, so, a Lady S.I. (Sub-inspector) is needed for the better implementation of Mahila Desk.

The other official questioned the number of postings of lady constables at village police station and chowkis which almost none and emphasized that postings of Mahila Constables at village level must also be implemented.

In this meeting, DYSP Mahendra Singh, Hathipol Mahila Desk incharge Diksha Chouhan, Dayaram from Bhupalpura police station, Sajjan Singh from Sukher police, Dhanpuri from Kheroda police, Narendra Kumar from Hiran Magri police, Girdhari lal from Kurabad, Pinki from Ghantaghar police and large number of other police officials from different police stations were present.
