Udaipur, March 21, 2025 - An Ongole breed cow from India has set a new world record by selling for $4.82 million (approximately Rs 41 crore) in Brazil. The auction took place in Minas Gerais, making it the most expensive cow ever sold. The cow, named Viatina-19, has been attracting high prices at auctions. This year’s auction broke all previous records.

Despite its international success, the Ongole breed is not as popular in India. Farmers in Brazil and other countries have benefited from structured breeding programs, while Indian farmers struggle due to a lack of government support and preference for crossbreeds.

Ongole cattle are originally from Prakasam district in Andhra Pradesh. Their heat resistance, strength and muscular build make them valuable for dairy and breeding purposes worldwide. Viatina-19 has also earned global recognition. It won the “Miss South America” title at the Cow Champion of the World pageant. In 2023, it was officially listed in the Guinness World Records as the most expensive cow.
