There are 50 different types of plants that are being displayed in the nursery, each of them carrying a significant medicinal importance.
Aloe Vera, Tulsi, Lemongrass, Meetha-Neem, Avla, Beda, Satwari, Goglu, Muchi-white and Gudmar are some of the plants used extensively in herbal industry and Ayurveda – the traditional Indian medication.
Shailendra Dashora – director of WZCC says that “till now we have shown rural and tribal life of people in India, their traditions, customs, social life etc though Shilpgram. But have never shown how and what they do for health care and medicine. So, the idea of this herbal garden popped up, we will try to describe the health life of rural and tribal people in India.”
Though there are no systematic name plates being displayed to explain the details of plants, nor is any expert to guide on the subject is being employed.
When asked about the lacunae in the management Shailendra Dashore said that “we have started this project only a few days back and have not even officially inaugurated it yet. We are planning to officially announce the project in the month of October- November, when plates describing the importance of the plants will also be displayed”.
The project is not commercially inclined; it is only for the purpose of creating mass awareness among the tourists and locals, visiting Shilpgram, so that they can understand the value of these plants from the point of view of those villagers that keep aloof from the urban world and that how these plants are a useful remedy for them in case of a medical emergency.
