Udaipur, February 20, 2025 - A tragic accident occurred in Rajasthan's Bikaner district when a young female powerlifter lost her life during a training session. Yashtika had recently won gold and silver medals in the 33rd National Bench Press Championship held in Goa.

Yashtika Acharya, a 17-year-old gold medallist at the Junior National Games, was practicing at a gym on February 18 when a 270-kg barbell fell on her neck. She was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

The accident happened while her trainer was guiding her through the session. The trainer also suffered minor injuries. According to Vikram Tiwari, officer of Naya Shahar Police Station, the barbell’s fall caused a fatal neck injury. A video of the incident has been circulating on social media.

After a post-mortem examination, Yashtika’s body was handed over to her family for the final rites on Wednesday.
