October 09, 2026: BMW has unveiled the new iX4 electric coupe-SUV. Although the new model is based on the iX3, its design places greater emphasis on sporty styling than practicality. It is the third model in the German automaker's New Class family. The iX4 is scheduled to go on sale in global markets in March 2027. Initially, the electric SUV will be available in two variants: 40 xDrive and 50 xDrive. Later, BMW will introduce the M60 xDrive as the most powerful version of the model.

BMW iX4 Battery and Range

The BMW iX4 uses BMW's 800-volt New Class platform and shares its battery technology with the iX3. The 40 xDrive gets an 82.6kWh battery, which is claimed to offer a WLTP range of 526-638km. The 50 xDrive comes with a larger 108.7kWh battery and offers a claimed WLTP range of 680- 828 km. The upcoming M60 xDrive is also expected to use a 108.7kWh battery and could offer a maximum WLTP range of 777km.

Dual-Motor All-Wheel Drive as Standard

All three BMW iX4 variants come with dual-motor all-wheel drive as standard. The 40 xDrive produces 374hp and 520Nm of torque, while the 50 xDrive delivers 469hp and 645Nm. The top-spec M60 xDrive increases output to 603hp, with a maximum torque of 875Nm.

There is also a significant difference in performance between the three variants. The 40 xDrive can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 5.6 seconds and has a top speed of 200km/h. The 50 xDrive takes 4.9 seconds and has a top speed of 210km/h. The M60 xDrive is the quickest of the three, reaching 100km/h from a standstill in just 3.9 seconds, with a top speed of 240km/h.

Adaptive sports suspension comes as standard on the M60 xDrive and can also be selected as an option on the other two variants. The suspension is designed to improve high-speed stability and cornering while maintaining the sporty character of the iX4.

BMW iX4 Fast-Charging Capabilities

The iX4 also gets impressive charging capabilities. All three variants support AC charging at up to 22kW. For DC fast charging, the 40 xDrive supports up to 300kW, while the 50 xDrive supports up to 400kW. BMW says both variants can charge from 10% to 80% in around 21 minutes.

Using the maximum DC charging capacity, the 40 xDrive can add up to 301km of range in 10 minutes, while the 50 xDrive can add up to 387km in the same period. This makes fast charging one of the key features of the iX4, particularly for long-distance journeys.

BMW iX4 Is Smaller Than the iX3

The BMW iX4 measures 4,782mm in length, 1,895mm in width and 1,595mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,897mm. This makes the new coupe-SUV 40mm shorter than the iX3.

While retaining BMW's New Class design language, the iX4 gets a sloping roofline, distinctive alloy wheels, clear-lens tail-lamps, a boot-lid spoiler and a more sculpted rear bumper.

The standard model gets 20-inch alloy wheels, while buyers can opt for wheels measuring up to 22 inches. The M60 xDrive gets special 21-inch alloy wheels, M badging, M-spec ORVM housings, a larger boot-lid spoiler and black exterior trim.

The M60 xDrive also gets adaptive LED headlamps and special lighting signatures around the grille. Its daytime running lights feature a yellow finish, although they are activated only when the low beams are switched on. BMW has given this version a more aggressive overall appearance.

BMW iX4 Cabin Features

The cabin of the iX4 is largely similar to that of the iX3. However, the sloping roofline slightly reduces rear headroom, while boot capacity is also lower than the iX3. The iX4 offers 490 litres of boot space.

The dashboard features a 17.9-inch rhomboid-shaped infotainment touchscreen, while BMW's Panoramic Vision display sits at the bottom of the windscreen.

The four-spoke steering wheel and high central tunnel are also carried over from the iX3. The 40 xDrive and 50 xDrive come with configurable ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, powered front seats with memory function, Level 2 ADAS and a seven-speaker sound system.

Other features include connected-car technology, an AI-powered digital assistant, Veganza leatherette upholstery, a wireless charging pad and power-opening doors. BMW has therefore focused on combining technology, comfort and everyday usability in the iX4's cabin.

More Premium Cabin in the M60 xDrive

The top-spec M60 xDrive gets a sportier and more premium cabin. It features a black finish, an M-spec steering wheel and M Sport seats with a massage function. The sound system is also upgraded to a 13-speaker Harman Kardon setup.

Overall, BMW has positioned the iX4 as a sportier and more performance-focused electric coupe-SUV than the iX3. The 50 xDrive stands out with its claimed WLTP range of up to 828km, 400kW DC fast charging and 469hp output. Meanwhile, the upcoming M60 xDrive will be the most powerful version of the iX4 family, with 603hp and a 0-100km/h time of just 3.9 seconds.
