Honda XR300L and XR300 Rally Launched in India: Check Price, Features and Rivals
Honda has launched the XR300L and XR300 Rally in India, expanding its adventure motorcycle lineup. Check their prices, engine, features, differences and key rivals.
October 06, 2026: Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India has launched two new adventure motorcycles in India. The company has introduced the Honda XR300L and Honda XR300 Rally in the domestic market. The two bikes are priced at Rs 1.83 lakh and Rs 2.08 lakh (ex-showroom), respectively.
In the last few years, the demand for lightweight adventure and dual-sport motorcycles in India has increased rapidly. Along with daily city commutes, many buyers are now choosing such bikes for weekend trail rides and long-distance touring. Honda has entered this growing segment with the new XR300 series.
Same Platform, Different Usage Targets
The Honda XR300L and XR300 Rally are built on the same platform and use the same engine. However, there are some differences in their intended usage and design.
The XR300L is mainly designed with a focus on off-road and dirt riding. The bike has less bodywork, while its dual-sport characteristics are clearly visible.
On the other hand, the XR300 Rally is designed with long-distance riders in mind. It gets a large front fairing, a tall windscreen and additional body panels. These features are aimed at reducing wind pressure during long highway rides and providing better rider comfort.
Both bikes feature a traditional dual-sport design. A tall stance, long-travel suspension, wire-spoke wheels and relatively minimal bodywork are some of the key features of these motorcycles.
286cc Engine with 6-Speed Gearbox
The Honda XR300L and XR300 Rally are powered by a 286cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine. The engine produces around 24.3 hp of power and 26.5 Nm of torque. It is paired with a 6-speed gearbox.
In terms of performance, the XR300 series can be positioned between the Hero Xpulse 210 and the Royal Enfield Himalayan. However, engine output is not the only important factor in this segment. The motorcycle's weight and off-road capabilities also play a major role.
Honda's smooth and refined engine character could appeal to riders looking to upgrade from a smaller-capacity motorcycle. The platform is designed to handle both daily city riding and weekend trail rides.
Long-Travel Suspension for Off-Road Riding
The XR300L and XR300 Rally are equipped with hardware suitable for off-road riding. Both motorcycles feature long-travel suspension and upside-down front forks.
There is a monoshock suspension setup at the rear. For braking, both bikes get disc brakes at the front and rear. They are also equipped with dual-purpose tyres and wire-spoke wheels.
The main aim of this setup is to provide better control on uneven roads and off-road trails. At the same time, Honda has tried to keep both motorcycles practical enough for city and highway riding.
Competing with Kawasaki, Hero, KTM and Royal Enfield
In terms of pricing and positioning, the Honda XR300L and XR300 Rally can compete with several motorcycles in the segment. The entry-level rivals include the Kawasaki KLX 230 and Hero Xpulse 210. One segment above are motorcycles such as the KTM Adventure 250 and Royal Enfield Himalayan.
Priced at Rs 1.83 lakh, the XR300L targets buyers looking for a premium lightweight dual-sport motorcycle. Meanwhile, the Rs 2.08 lakh XR300 Rally is aimed more at touring-focused riders.
The Kawasaki KLX 230 is known for its off-road capabilities, which are one of its biggest attractions. Meanwhile, motorcycles such as the KTM Adventure 250 and Royal Enfield Himalayan are more touring-focused. However, their relatively higher weight can make them feel different when riding on difficult trails.
In this regard, the Honda XR300 series can be seen as a middle ground between lightweight off-road motorcycles and larger adventure tourers.
Upgrade from Xpulse, Another Big ADV Option
For Hero Xpulse 210 users, the XR300L could be an interesting upgrade option in terms of performance and positioning. Its relatively lightweight design and off-road capabilities could also attract KTM Adventure 250 buyers.
The XR300 Rally could appeal to buyers considering the Royal Enfield Himalayan. It combines the relatively simple and manageable nature of a lightweight adventure motorcycle with the fairing and windscreen needed for long-distance riding.
Overall, the Honda XR300L and XR300 Rally add new options to India's lightweight adventure motorcycle segment. With prices starting at Rs 1.83 lakh, the XR300L targets off-road-focused buyers, while the XR300 Rally comes as a more touring-oriented package for adventure riders at Rs 2.08 lakh.
