Hyundai Bayon India Launch: New SUV May Challenge Grand Vitara With CNG Option
Hyundai Bayon is expected to enter India in 2027 as a new midsize SUV. Check its expected price, engine, CNG option, features, booking and rivals.
September 30, 2026: Hyundai is now bringing a new model to compete in the midsize SUV segment in India. This new SUV, named the Hyundai Bayon, is expected to enter the Indian market in October 2027 during the festive season. However, before that, the car is expected to make its global debut at the Paris Motor Show on October 12, 2026. It is also reported that bookings for the car have already started. Customers can book the Bayon online or through Hyundai-authorised dealerships by paying a token amount of Rs 11,000.
Shorter than the Grand Vitara
The new Hyundai Bayon will be around 4.2 metres long. As a result, it will be slightly shorter than other SUVs in this segment. Its main competitor, the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, is around 4.3 metres long. The Bayon will also be slightly smaller than the Skoda Kushaq and Volkswagen Taigun. The new model will be positioned between the sub-4-metre Hyundai Venue and the next-generation Creta.
Will Hyundai surprise with the price?
Hyundai could adopt an aggressive pricing strategy for the Bayon. The ex-showroom price of the Bayon is expected to start at around Rs 9 lakh and go up to Rs 14 lakh. If Hyundai launches the SUV at this price, it could compete strongly with models such as the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara. The Bayon could also target the higher variants of sub-4-metre SUVs such as the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Kia Syros and Mahindra XUV 3XO.
CNG option with petrol
The Hyundai Bayon is expected to get a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine. The same engine is also used in models such as the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and Hyundai Verna. It can produce around 114 bhp of power and 144 Nm of torque. The SUV is expected to be offered with 6-speed manual and CVT automatic gearbox options. Along with the petrol version, Hyundai may also offer a factory-fitted CNG variant. It is likely to feature an underbody CNG setup. If launched, this could become Hyundai's first factory-fitted CNG model measuring more than 4 metres in length.
Packed with features
The Hyundai Bayon is expected to feature a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 12.3-inch digital driver display. Other premium features could include automatic climate control, an electrically adjustable driver's seat and ventilated front seats. A panoramic sunroof, leatherette seats and a multifunction steering wheel could further enhance the SUV's appeal.
