Mercedes-AMG has revealed its high-performance electric GT SUV with up to 1,169 HP, 2,000 Nm of torque and a claimed range of 700 km. The five-seater features three variants, ultra-fast charging, a premium cabin and advanced suspension technology. Here is what to know about its specifications and expected India launch.
October 21, 2026: Mercedes-AMG has introduced a new high-performance electric SUV, bringing its performance-focused engineering to the electric vehicle segment. The top-spec Mercedes-AMG GT 63 SUV produces a claimed 1,169 HP and 2,000 Nm of torque. According to the company, it can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.7 seconds.
The five-seater SUV has been developed by AMG's performance division and shares its platform with the upcoming electric GT 4-Door Coupe. The model range will include three versions: GT 53, GT 55 and GT 63. The GT 53 is scheduled to arrive first, followed by the GT 55 and GT 63 in spring 2027. However, Mercedes-Benz has not yet confirmed whether the new electric SUV will launch in India.
Aggressive Design With Familiar AMG Styling
The new Mercedes-AMG GT SUV measures 5,084 mm in length, 2,001 mm in width and 1,656 mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 3,040 mm. At the front, the SUV features AMG's familiar vertical-slat grille, LED headlamps and star-shaped daytime running lights. An illuminated Mercedes-Benz logo will also be available as an option.
The sloping roofline, frameless windows and wide wheel arches give the SUV a sporty appearance. At the rear, it features six round LED taillights, along with an optional full-width light bar. The GT 55 and GT 63 variants also get an active rear spoiler that adjusts its position according to speed and driving conditions.
Mercedes-AMG has also focused on aerodynamic efficiency. The GT 53 has a claimed drag coefficient of 0.28, while the GT 55 and GT 63 have a figure of 0.27. The SUV offers 607 litres of boot space and an additional 78-litre storage compartment at the front. Buyers can also choose from more than 60 exterior colours through the Manufaktur personalisation programme.
14-Inch Touchscreen and Premium Cabin Features
Inside, the Mercedes-AMG GT SUV features a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14-inch central touchscreen. Buyers can also opt for an additional 14-inch display for the front passenger.
The infotainment system runs the latest MBUX software, built on Mercedes-Benz's MB.OS platform. The company has announced the integration of AI assistants and services, including ChatGPT, Microsoft Bing and Google Gemini. A dedicated AMG application will allow drivers to view performance data, adjust vehicle settings and record driving telemetry on the track.
Other features include electrically adjustable performance seats, a panoramic glass roof with variable transparency, ambient lighting and a Burmester 4D sound system. Drivers can also adjust regenerative braking levels using the paddles on the AMG Performance steering wheel. Further personalisation options include different cabin colours, seat upholstery and seatbelt colours.
Mercedes-AMG GT SUV: Power and Performance
The new electric SUV will be offered in three variants with different power outputs and motor configurations.
| Variant | Maximum Power | Torque | 0–100 km/h |
|---|---|---|---|
| GT 53 | 544 HP | 800 Nm | 4.2 seconds |
| GT 55 | 816 HP | 1,860 Nm | 3.1 seconds |
| GT 63 | 1,169 HP | 2,000 Nm | 2.7 seconds |
The GT 53 uses a two-motor setup, while the GT 55 and GT 63 feature three electric motors. The GT 53 has a claimed top speed of 250 km/h. The GT 55 and GT 63 can reach up to 270 km/h with the optional Driver's Package, according to the company.
Up to 700 km Range and Ultra-Fast Charging
The three variants also differ in battery capacity and claimed driving range. The GT 53 gets a 106 kWh battery with a claimed WLTP range of 668 km on a single charge. The GT 55 and GT 63 feature a larger 128 kWh battery, with a claimed range of up to 700 km.
The SUV uses an 800-volt electrical architecture. According to the initial specifications, the GT 53 supports DC fast charging at up to 600 kW, while the GT 55 and GT 63 support charging at up to 710 kW. Mercedes-AMG claims that charging from 10% to 80% could take approximately 11 to 12 minutes under suitable conditions.
These range and charging figures are based on the company's preliminary claims. Actual results may vary depending on the charging station, battery temperature, weather and other operating conditions.
New Suspension Technology and Rear-Wheel Steering
The Mercedes-AMG GT SUV comes with rear-wheel steering as standard. This system allows the rear wheels to turn under certain conditions, helping improve manoeuvrability, stability and cornering performance.
The GT 63 also features AMG Active Ride Control+ suspension technology as standard. This system uses hydraulic elements instead of conventional anti-roll bars to help reduce body roll during cornering and acceleration.
The flagship GT 63 comes with carbon-ceramic brakes as standard. In the GT 55 and GT 63, drivers can also adjust throttle response, traction control and cornering characteristics through controls on the centre console.
Electric SUV With Artificial Engine Sounds
Mercedes-AMG has introduced an AMG Force Sport+ driving mode designed to recreate the sound and gearshift sensations of a conventional combustion-engine vehicle. The GT 53 is expected to produce a sound inspired by a six-cylinder engine, while the GT 55 and GT 63 will feature simulated AMG V8-style engine sounds.
The system is designed to make the driving experience more engaging for enthusiasts who enjoy the sound and feel of traditional performance cars. These sounds are artificially generated and do not change how the electric motors actually operate.
When Will the Mercedes-AMG GT SUV Launch in India?
Mercedes-Benz has not yet announced the India launch date or pricing of the new Mercedes-AMG GT SUV. It is also unclear which variants, if any, will be offered in the Indian market.
With up to 1,169 HP, a three-motor configuration, a claimed range of up to 700 km and ultra-fast charging capabilities, the new GT SUV represents a significant move by Mercedes-AMG into the high-performance electric SUV segment.
However, a clearer picture of its real-world performance, driving range and charging times will emerge after production specifications and independent test results become available. Buyers in India will have to wait for an official announcement regarding availability and pricing.
