October 13, 2026: OnePlus has launched its new flagship smartphone, the OnePlus 16, in China. The phone succeeds the OnePlus 15, which was launched in 2025. The new model brings several upgrades to its processor, battery and display.
The key highlights of the OnePlus 16 include a massive 9,000mAh battery, Qualcomm’s 2nm Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chipset and a 200-megapixel primary camera. The smartphone also features an AMOLED display with a refresh rate of up to 185Hz, a triple rear camera setup, and wired and wireless fast charging.
The phone will be available in four RAM and storage configurations in China. However, OnePlus has not yet announced its launch date or official price in India.
OnePlus 16 Price and Variants
The OnePlus 16 is available in four configurations in the Chinese market. The base variant comes with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage and is priced at approximately ₹86,000.
The 12GB RAM and 512GB storage variant costs around ₹97,000. Meanwhile, the model with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage is priced at approximately ₹1,07,000.
The top-end variant offers 16GB of RAM and 1TB of internal storage. This model costs around ₹1,21,000.
The smartphone will go on sale in China on October 13 through the Oppo online store. It will be available in three colour options: Tomorrow’s Star, Martian Masterpiece and Dark Forest. These names are translated from Chinese.
However, it remains unclear whether the same colours and storage configurations will be available in India. The prices mentioned above are approximate conversions of the Chinese prices and are not confirmed Indian prices.
OnePlus 16 Display and Security Features
The OnePlus 16 features a 6.78-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display with a resolution of 1,272 × 2,772 pixels. The screen supports a refresh rate of up to 185Hz, which can deliver smoother visuals in supported games and other compatible content.
The display offers a pixel density of 450 pixels per inch (ppi) and a peak brightness of up to 2,000 nits under specified conditions. It also supports 100% of the DCI-P3 colour gamut, allowing it to display a wide range of colours in compatible content.
Other display features include an Always-On Display and 3,840Hz PWM dimming. These features are designed to improve the viewing experience, although their benefits will depend on the content and usage conditions.
For protection against dust and water, the phone carries IP66, IP68, IP69 and IP69K ratings. These ratings indicate protection under specific testing conditions and do not mean that the device is completely waterproof in every situation.
The smartphone also features an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor embedded beneath the display.
Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 Chipset
The OnePlus 16 is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chipset. According to the reported specifications, the octa-core processor is built using a 2nm manufacturing process and has a maximum clock speed of 5.01GHz. Graphics processing is handled by the Adreno 850 GPU.
The phone comes with up to 16GB of LPDDR5X Ultra RAM and up to 1TB of UFS 4.1 internal storage. These specifications could make the higher-end variant suitable for users who need additional memory and storage for gaming, multitasking and large files.
OnePlus has also included three dedicated chips designed to improve the gaming experience. These are the P4 Super Display Chip, Lingshi Touch Chip and G3 E-Sports Network Chip. They are designed to improve display performance, touch response and network connectivity during gaming.
However, actual gaming performance will depend on factors such as the game being played, network conditions, software optimisation and device temperature.
OnePlus 16 Camera Specifications
The OnePlus 16 features a triple rear camera system supported by Oppo’s Lumo imaging technology. The primary camera uses a 200-megapixel sensor with an f/1.6 aperture. It also supports two-axis optical image stabilisation (OIS), which helps reduce the effects of hand movement when taking photographs.
The second camera is a 50-megapixel ultra-wide sensor with an f/2.0 aperture and a 116-degree field of view. The third is a 50-megapixel telephoto camera with an f/2.6 aperture. It supports up to 3x optical zoom and up to 120x digital zoom.
For selfies and video calls, the phone has a 50-megapixel front camera with an f/2.0 aperture. It can also record videos at up to 4K resolution at 60 frames per second (fps).
Although the camera specifications look promising, megapixel counts alone do not determine image quality. Factors such as sensor size, image processing, software optimisation and lighting conditions also play an important role.
9,000mAh Battery and Fast Charging
One of the biggest highlights of the OnePlus 16 is its 9,000mAh battery. The large battery capacity could provide extended usage, particularly for users who play games, stream videos or use their phones throughout the day.
For charging, the smartphone supports 100W wired fast charging and 50W wireless fast charging. However, actual battery life and charging times will depend on usage, temperature, network conditions and other factors.
In terms of connectivity, the phone supports 5G, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0 and a USB Type-C port. Its positioning systems include GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, QZSS and Galileo.
Other features include a proximity sensor, ambient light sensor, electronic compass, accelerometer, gyroscope and an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor beneath the display.
The OnePlus 16 measures 161.42mm in length, 76.67mm in width and 8.55mm in thickness. It weighs approximately 220 grams.
When Will the OnePlus 16 Launch in India?
OnePlus has launched the OnePlus 16 in China, but the company has not yet confirmed an Indian launch date. Its official Indian price, available RAM and storage configurations, and colour options also remain unannounced.
Indian buyers should not assume that the Chinese prices will be the same as the final Indian prices. Taxes, import costs, local pricing decisions and other factors may affect the price if the phone launches in India.
The OnePlus 16’s main highlights include its 9,000mAh battery, 200-megapixel primary camera, high-refresh-rate display and Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chipset. However, practical testing will be needed to assess its real-world performance, battery life and camera quality.
For buyers in India, the next important update will be an official announcement from OnePlus regarding the phone’s availability and pricing in the Indian market.
