Launched at an initial ex-showroom price of Rs 5.29 lakh, the car may seem like an updated version of the outgoing Tata Tigor at first glance. However, along with several changes to the design and cabin, the biggest attraction of the Aeris is its feature list.
The Maruti Suzuki Dzire has long been one of the most popular models in this segment. Although the Dzire is ahead in terms of sales, the Tata Aeris offers several modern features that the Dzire does not have. Even in the entry-level sedan segment, some of these features are still rare.
As a result, the main goal of the Tata Aeris is not only to compete directly with the Dzire in terms of sales numbers. Rather, Tata wants to offer more technology, comfort and convenience in a low-cost sedan. Let's take a look at five such features of the Aeris.
1. First Ventilated Front Seats in the Segment
One of the biggest attractions of the Tata Aeris is its ventilated front seats. Such features are usually found in higher-priced premium cars. In the case of the Aeris, it is a significant addition to the compact sedan segment.
The feature is available in the top-spec Accomplished variant, which starts at Rs 8.19 lakh ex-showroom. The ventilation function comes with leatherette seat upholstery. Ventilated seats can provide extra comfort during long drives or journeys in hot weather. This feature can be especially useful in hot-weather markets like India. The Maruti Suzuki Dzire does not offer ventilated front seats.
2. Dual Smartphone Deck and Wireless Charging
The company has also focused on smartphone convenience in the Tata Aeris. The car gets a dual smartphone deck on the centre console. The system includes a dedicated phone holder and a wireless charging pad.
As a result, the phone can be stored and charged in the same place. The feature is offered in the top-spec Accomplished variant. The Maruti Suzuki Dzire does not have a similar dual smartphone deck. This can be a small but useful convenience in daily use. For example, while using navigation, drivers can keep their phones in a dedicated space and charge them at the same time.
3. Built-in Integrated Dashcam
The Tata Aeris also gets an integrated dashcam recorder. It can record footage from the front, rear and both sides of the car using the vehicle's surround-view camera system.
The feature is available in the top-spec Accomplished variant, eliminating the need to buy or install a separate aftermarket dashcam. Video recording can provide additional information in case of an incident while driving. The camera system can also be useful when parking or monitoring the area around the car. The Maruti Suzuki Dzire does not offer a factory-fitted dashcam recording system.
4. Blind-View Monitor with 360-Degree Camera
The Tata Aeris' 360-degree camera is one of its key features for parking and driving in tight spaces. It also comes with blind-view monitors for the ORVMs, or outside rear-view mirrors, on both sides.
The feature is available in the Creative variant. In addition to showing the view around the car, the system can provide additional information about areas outside the driver's direct field of vision. This can be helpful when changing lanes or checking for vehicles on either side.
In comparison, the Honda Amaze is said to offer a single-side blind-spot camera system. The Tata Aeris offers this system on both sides. The Maruti Suzuki Dzire does not offer this feature.
5. Largest 10.25-Inch Infotainment Screen in the Segment
The Tata Aeris features a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which is claimed to be the largest infotainment screen in the segment. The display is available from the Creative variant.
In comparison, the Honda Amaze and Hyundai Aura have 8-inch infotainment screens, while the Maruti Suzuki Dzire has a 9-inch display. As a result, the Aeris stands out in terms of screen size. The larger display can provide a more convenient interface for navigation, media controls and other infotainment functions.
Features Are the Weapon in the Fight with the Dzire
The design of the Tata Aeris follows Tata Motors' new styling language. With a design inspired by the Tiago and a modern cabin, several elements of the familiar mechanical package from the old Tigor have been retained. However, the most notable aspect of the new car is its long list of features.
Ventilated front seats, a dual smartphone deck, a built-in dashcam, a 360-degree camera, blind-view monitors on both sides and a 10.25-inch infotainment screen help the Aeris stand out in this segment.
On the other hand, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire remains in a strong position in terms of sales. As a result, the Tata Aeris' strategy is to attract buyers through a feature-rich experience rather than simply trying to close the sales gap. With a starting price of Rs 5.29 lakh, the Aeris is not just competing on price. Its feature list could also raise expectations for what buyers want from a compact sedan.
