Delhi witnessed the 64th National Film Awards where heart throb Akshay Kumar was awarded best actor and best actress award went to Surabhi Jyothi.

64th National Film awards

The awards were given away by President Pranab Mukerjee. Akshay was felicitated with best actor award for Rustom and Surabhi Jyohti bagged the award for Malyalam film Minnaminungu (The Firelfy). The Dadasaheb Phalke award was given to Director K Vishwanath. Information and Broadcasting Minister Venkaiah Naidu and State Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore were also present on the occasion.

64th National Film awards

This is the first time when Akshay Kumar has received a National Film award. The award for Best feature film went to Marathi film Kasaav. Neerja won as the Best Hindi Feature film and actress Sonam Kapoor got a Special Mention award for her brave act in this film.  Apart from these, awards were also given in the categories of Best Director, Supporting Actor, Supporting Actress, Child Artist and Playback Singing.

Rajesh Mapuskar bagged the best director award for Marathi film Ventilator, Manoj Joshi as Best supporting actor for Marathi film Dashakriya and Zaira Wasim as Best Actress for the most talked about Hindi film Dangal.

64th National Film awards

Pink based on social issues was given the Best Film award. In the category of children’s films, Nagesh Kukunoor’s film Dhanak was awarded as the Best Children’s film. Best Child Actor award was collectively given to Adish Pravin for Malyalam film Kunju Devam, Noor Islam for Bengali film Sahaj Pather Gappo and K Manohara for Kannada film Railway Children.

Best playback singer went to Sundarayyar for Tamil film Joker, Best female playback singer went to Iman Chakravarty for Bengali film Prakatan.

64th National Film awards

Akshay Kumar and Sonam Kapoor were seen glowing with happiness during the award ceremony. Anil Kapoor with wife Sunita and Sonam’s boyfriend were also present. Akshay’s wife Twinkle Khanna and son were also present during the ceremony.
