AIPWA Udaipur Observes Savitri Bai Phule Birth Anniversary
All India Progressive Women’s Association (AIPWA) celebrates the birth anniversary of Savitri Bai Phule, the first woman teacher of India
Udaipur, Jan 8, 2026 - The birth anniversary of Savitri Bai Phule, the first woman teacher of India, was observed by the All India Progressive Women’s Association (AIPWA) in Udaipur on January 3, 2026. On this occasion Savitri Bai Phule’s associate, close friend and revolutionary comrade Fatima Sheikh was also commemorated.
The key speaker at the programme was noted Dalit writer and activist Dr Kusum Meghwal who called on Dalits, backward communities, minorities and tribal people to unite. Also speaking on the occasion, Prof. Sudha Chaudhary, national vice-president of AIPWA, said the friendship of Savitri Bai Phule and Fatima Sheikh is exemplary in the present time and said that in order to fight the divisive forces it is essential to develop unity and cooperation among people of all religions and communities.
Former IAS officer Yasin Khan Pathan reached out to the women in the audience to narrate their problems and offered to help in solving them.
Prof. Hemendra Chandalia former Zonal Secretary of AIFUCTO, expressed the need for developing political consciousness among women besides formal education.
Also present on the occasion were former Municipal Councillor Nazma Mewafarosh, Prof. Pramila Singhvi and Prof. LR Patel.
The State secretary of AIPWA Prof. Farhat Bano informed that a week-long programme has been organised in the city to commemorate these two icons of women empowerment.
