Bhilwara's Ashwini is State's First Female Wrestler to Win Gold at World Level
Ashwini Bishnoi of Bhilwara won all her five bouts without conceding even a single point
Udaipur, Aug 2, 2025 - Ashwini Bishnoi from Jawahar Nagar, Bhilwara, has won a gold medal in the Under-17 World Wrestling Championship in Athens, Greece. She is the first woman wrestler from Rajasthan to win gold in a World Championship.
The daughter of a textile mill worker, Ashwini has brought pride not only to Rajasthan but to the entire country. So far, in just two years, she has secured five international gold medals, two of which were within a month.
At the championship held in Athens, she competed in the 65 kg Weight category. What was remarkable was that none of Ashwini’s opponents in all the five matches were able to score even a single point.
According to coach Kalyan Bishnoi of Shiv Vyayamshala Pur, Ashwini defeated her first opponent from Algeria by technical superiority with a score of 10-0. In her next match, she beat the wrestler from Hungary with a technical score of 13-0, entering the quarter-finals. In the next game, she pinned her Mongolian opponent down with a 10-0 win. In the semi-finals, she overpowered the Russian wrestler 7-0. Finally, in the championship match, Ashwini defeated the Uzbekistan wrestler 3-0 to clinch the gold medal.
Earlier, on July 1, Ashwini had bagged the gold for India in the Under 17 Asian Wrestling Championship in Vietnam.
