As an initiative towards a pollution free society, Banyan Roots, the organic food store organized a workshop on the concept of Organic Home on Tuesday, April 3, 2012. The workshop aimed at explaining how to transform a house into a home.
This workshop was divided into 5 sessions. The 1st session included an explanation of the concept of an organic home by Canadian researchers, Gary and Peter.
They informed the participants about the basic structure of the workshop, optimum utilization of natural resources and the personal responsibility of each member of the house to make it a mindful home.
The audience was then given a task of 30 minutes to describe their home to their neighbors. They were also asked to tell what the photos describe about their homes and why did they choose them specifically.
In the 2nd session they were given 45 minutes for defining “Home” as to what and where is your home? This was followed by a voluntary discussion.
In the 3rd session, the participants were asked to draw a map of their home in detail showing location, area, family members, social networks, sacred places, meeting spots, mode of transportation, and basic facilities like water, electricity, waste disposal etc.
With the dinner break, the 4th session started in which people interacted about food in their home which included topics like what is the importance of it to them, where does it come from etc.
The workshop concluded with 60 minutes discussion an organic model of home.
A lot of new ways were devised to make a home more organic. Definitions of an organic home model was given by Gary as “A Home is a complex place of biological and social interactions and exchanges.” The concept is said to have utilization of wastes into some productive form like Bio Gas.
