Bollywood needs to stop distorting history: Arvind Singh Mewar

Arvind Singh Mewar came down heavily on Bollywood and urged that it needs to stop presenting distorted versions of history. This came in his interview response to a question on attack on filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali in Jaipur.

Arvind Singh Mewar, 76th Custodian of the House of Mewar Udaipur asked as to why does Bollywood need to distort history to meet its own end? He said that nobody can condone a physical attack on anyone but filmmakers also need to be cognizant of their responsibilities and ensure that they show due respect to sensitivities and sensibilities.

Arvind Singh said that he had faced similar bad experiences before and cited the case of television series on Rana Pratap Singh. He said that the serial makers had come to him for an endorsement since Rana Pratap was from Mewar lineage. Not sure whether serial makers would stick to their promise, Arvind Singh did not provide endorsement. He said that when he finally saw the serial, he was aghast at the distortions in the historical events and felt relieved that he had nothing to do with it.

Arvind Singh was critical of the film makers and said that often our centuries old heritage is used as a prop to hold any narrative that the film makers have to suit their ends.

Readers may note that recently there was a huge hue and cry in Bollywood after Sanjay Leela Bhansali was attacked by members of Shri Rajput Karni Sena while shooting in Jaipur.
