Bravo!! Woman power on Harley Davidson

Pooja Rajput travelled 2000 km on her Harley Davidson…ALONE.

Her introduction is definitely an inspiring one…ladies, hold your seats…she is Pooja Rajput, Lieutenant Commander in Indian Navy. She travelled a distance of 2000 km on her impressive machine that we all know as Harley Davidson. It was her solo coastal ride. She says that women should travel without any preconceived notions.

Pooja undertook this journey to assess the safety of women riders like her in the country. She travelled from Goa to Mangalore, Coorg, Muzhappilangad, Ooty, Connoor, Calicut, Moodabidri and Karwad from 8th to 15th April in 2017.

She proudly informed that her training as a Naval officer helped her in overcoming difficulties on road. When asked if she was worried about her own safety, she said that she was prepared to face any situation.

As per Pooja, “When you are a woman riding on a 1600 cc superbike, it attracts lots of attention and there are lots of curious people on the road who try to stop you, of whom you should be aware. They can create a situation like an accident.” She overtook a bus for which she says, “I was right behind the bus, the bus could not pull up and started slipping backwards. With great difficulty I managed to manoeuvre my bike to the left.”

She wants the women to be strong and not be scared of the bullies on road. Instead women should be prepared to handle the situation on their own.

Some people are very rowdy on the road. A woman on a bike sometimes attracts a lot of unwanted attention. On a smaller bike maybe people just pass by, but I get noticed more because of my superbike.”

She also says that women should move out of their comfort zones and find out for themselves as to how strong they are. She wants every woman to learn self-defence. She carries a pepper spray and a knife with her all the time for her own safety.

On her road trip, a lot of people were surprised yet happy to see a woman on bike and they even took pictures with her.
