"I Have Spent 10 Years..." – Bumrah Silences Critics with 5-Wicket Haul

Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah says pitch is still batting-friendly, may crack later

 |

June 23, 2025 -The first match of the five-match Test series between India and England is being played at Headingley in Leeds. By the end of the third day, Team India had scored 90 runs for the loss of two wickets in their second innings.

With this, India’s lead has increased to 96 runs. Earlier, India scored 471 runs in their first innings. In reply, England managed 465 runs, giving India a lead of 6 runs in the first innings. Jasprit Bumrah took five wickets for India — the 14th five-wicket haul of his career.

After the innings, Bumrah gave a strong reply to the critics who once said his career would end in 8 to 10 months. He said he has now completed nearly 10 years in international cricket and has also played 12-13 years in the IPL.

While speaking to news agency PTI, Bumrah said that every time he gets a major injury, people say his career is over. The bowler said, "Let people keep saying things, I will keep doing my work. These talks will come up every few months, but as long as God wants, I will keep playing. I prepare well and leave the rest to God."

'People's Opinions Don’t Matter to Me'

Bumrah clearly said it does not matter to him what people write or say about him. He added, "I can’t tell people what to write about me. Headlines with my name get views, but I don’t care about that."

Bumrah on Pitch Conditions

Bumrah also spoke about the pitch after his five-wicket haul. He said that right now, it is a good pitch for batting. However, cracks might appear towards the end of the match. He added that the new ball is expected to swing because of the weather, which is normal in Test cricket.

The player said that Team India would look to score big in the second innings and reach a strong position in the match.
