Dhrupad Maestro Ustad Zia Fariduddin Dagar dies
Padam Shri Zia Fariduddin Dagar, son of Ziauddin Khansahib, who was court musician of Maharana Bhupal Singh of Udaipur, took his last breath yesterday. He was born in Udaipur on June 15, 1932.

He represented the 19th generation of the Dagarbani musical tradition and was known to propagate Dhrupad, a musical art form.
In his lifetime, Ustad was honored with Padma Shri award, Sangeet Natak Akademi award and Madhya Pradesh government’s prestigious Tansen Samman.
He taught at Dhrupad Gurukul in Bhopal for 25 years and at Dhrupad Sansar, IIT Bombay for 5 years.
