December 13, 2024 - Donald Trump, the elected President of the United States, has been named Person of the Year by Time magazine for the second time. Previously, in 2016, Time had named him Person of the Year after his unexpected victory in the Presidential election. This time, Trump has made a similarly stunning comeback.

For this year's honour, he was listed as a finalist alongside prominent figures such as Vice President Kamala Harris, X owner Elon Musk, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Britain's Princess Kate Middleton.

Time's Chief Editor Sam Jacobs announced the honour, saying, "He was honoured for making a historic comeback, advancing a once-in-a-generation political realignment, reshaping the presidency, and changing America's role in the world."

"Donald Trump is Time's 2024 — Person of the Year," the magazine said.

"We are witnessing a resurgence of populism, a widening mistrust in the institutions that defined the last century, and an eroding faith that liberal values will lead to better lives for most people. Trump is both agent and beneficiary of it all," the magazine added.

Last year, pop icon Taylor Swift was named Time’s Person of the Year for 2023.
