Dr. S.P Gupta, a renowned surgeon at Udaipur’s Maharana Bhupal Hospital has been appointed as the new Head of Surgery Department; he took the position after the retirement of former Head Dr. Garima Mehta.

Dr. Gupta had received his degree of M.B.B.S and M.S. from R.N.T Medical College, later he was honored with Fellow of International College of Surgeon (Unites States) and Member of National Academic of Sciences (New Delhi).

There are several research papers to Dr. Gupta’s credit which have been published in India, England and Italy. He had also authored several other articles which are published in number of magazines in India. According to one of the former students of R.N.T Medical College, Dr. Gupta is a great lecturer and ideal for many students at R.N.T Medical College.

Dr. Gupta does operations in diagnosis laparoscopy, cholecystectomy and appendix. He was one of the surgeons among the first team that performed laparoscopy operation in Udaipur in 1998.

Talking about the surgery department Dr. Gupta says, “Major advancements that I would like to see is installing a 3 chip camera for laparoscopy and the adequate staff.”

Dr. Gupta has also been holding the post of professor in R.N.T Medical College of Udaipur since 1988. Before joining RNT, he has worked at JLL Medical College, Ajmer, SMS Medical College, Jaipur as an Assistant Professor and also worked as Medical Officer in Bhinder.

About level of education in medical institutes of Udaipur he says, “0ur facilities, faculties and strategies are as good as any top Indian medical college.”

Among his several research papers, 3 of them are on his original innovative techniques viz. Positioning the Verres Needle published in British Journal of Surgery in 1989, Penile Strangulation by Metallic Rings in Bombay Hospital Journal in 2005 and A Safer Technique of Closure Peptic Ulcer Perforation in Indian J Surgeon in 2011.

Other international journals to publish his work are International Surgery and British Journal of Urology.
