One of the most respected jurist of India, Padma Bhushan Fali S Nariman, breathed his last at his Delhi home on 21 February, at the age of 95.
Fali Nariman was a senior advocate at the Supreme Court since 1971 and President of the Bar Association of India from 1991 till 2010. Nariman, a towering personality in the legal fraternity and a champion of human values and constitutional rights has remarkable achievements to his name and leaves behind a profound impact on the Indian judicial system. One of the examples of his integrity and courage was when he resigned from his post of Additional Solicitor General in 1975 as a mark of protest against the Emergency.
Shri Fali Nariman Ji was among the most outstanding legal minds and intellectuals. He devoted his life to making justice accessible to common citizens. I am pained by his passing away. My thoughts are with his family and admirers. May his soul rest in peace.

He was known for many benchmark cases such as the Bhopal Gas Tragedy, Kesavananda Bharti case and SP Gupta case among others. Many of his cases paved the way for evolution of the Indian Constitutional Law. He was recipient of the Padma Bhushan in 1991 and Padma Vibhushan in 2007. Fali S Nariman was born in Myanmar (Burma) in 1929. He attended the Government Law College in Mumbai.
