Pranab Mukherjee, 13th President of India (2012-2017) and a senior Congressman died today evening at the age of 84, after being in critical conditions for weeks.
Pranab Mukherjee, or "Pranab da" as he was fondly called was under septic shock since today morning as reported by the Army Hospital at Delhi Cantonment, where he was admitted following testing positive for COVID and with lung infection. He was in deep coma and on ventilator support.
Revered as one of the finest leaders in modern India, Pranab Mukherjee held five decades of political experience and was a senior leader in the Congress before serving his Presidential term. He had occupied several ministerial positions during his tenure with the Congress.
President of India, Ram Nath Kovind, expressing condolences in his tweet said, "His demise is passing of an era. A colossus in public life, he served Mother India with the spirit of a sage. The nation mourns losing one of its worthiest sons."
Pranab Mukherjee was known for his strong response to terrorism mercy petitions during his tenure as President. Pranab da was born in 1935 to a freedom fighter, when the freedom struggle was at its peak in India.
