June 21, 2025 - Captain Shubman Gill has made history by scoring a century against England. He has become only the fifth Indian captain to score a century on English soil. Before him, four Indian captains had achieved this feat. The last century by an Indian captain in England was scored by Virat Kohli in 2018. Now, 25-year-old Shubman Gill has ended that long wait.

Fourth Indian Captain to Score Century in First Innings as Test Captain
Gill has become the fourth Indian captain to score a century in his very first innings as India's Test captain. He is also the 23rd player in the world to score a century in his first innings as captain. At 25 years old, Gill is the fourth youngest to do so, after Herbie Taylor, Alastair Cook and Steve Smith.

1. Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi
He was the first Indian captain to score a century in England. He played a brilliant innings of 148 runs in Leeds in 1967.
2. Mohammad Azharuddin
After a gap of 23 years, Azharuddin ended the drought by scoring two centuries during the 1990 England tour - 121 at Lord’s and 179 in Manchester.
3. Sourav Ganguly
In 2002, Ganguly joined this list by scoring 128 runs in Leeds, the same ground where Gill scored his century.
4. Virat Kohli
After 16 years, Kohli scored two centuries as captain in England during the 2018 tour - 149 in Birmingham and 103 in Nottingham. He retired from Test cricket before the current series began.
5. Shubman Gill
Gill ended the seven-year wait for an Indian captain’s century in England. He reached his century in 140 balls in his first Test as captain. This was also his first century against a SENA team (South Africa, England, New Zealand, Australia).
