July 3, 2025 - India's Test captain Shubman Gill, who scored a double century in the second Test against England, said that he tried to bat the same way as he did in his early days. He said his focus was on keeping a good rhythm and enjoying his batting.

Gill scored 269 runs from 387 balls and became the first Indian and Asian captain to hit a double century in a Test match in England. He also scored a century in the first Test at Leeds. When asked if he changed his technique before the series, Gill told the host broadcaster, "I worked a lot on it after the IPL and before this series."

He said, "I mainly worked on my initial movement. Before this, I felt my batting was going well. I was scoring 30, 35 or 40 runs regularly, but I was losing focus. Many people say that when you focus too much, you may not be able to focus at the right time."

He added, "In this series, I tried to go back to my basics. I tried to bat the same way I used to in my childhood. I focused on enjoying my batting instead of only thinking about runs."

Gill said, "Many times, when runs are not coming easily, batting does not feel fun. You start thinking too much about scoring. I felt this was missing in my batting. I was so focused on making runs that I forgot to enjoy the game."

He also said, "In the last match, I played more freely, but it was not that easy here. I thought that if the pitch is good and I am set at the crease, then I will stay for a long time. I will not leave the job half done."
