Jaipur Rugs weaver couple Parvati and Bagchand from Kekri village in Rajasthan have won the prestigious European Product Design award 2019 for Artisan Original Design.

Parvati and Bagchand came through as winners after being pitted against global design houses to win this They defeated global design houses to win the Bronze in the category Artisan Original Design for their rug Sawan ka Lehariya woven and made by them together.

Sawan ka Lehariya rug is a part of Artisan original collection under which weavers become the designers of their own rug.  This collection comprises of original designs by rural craftsmen and showcases their creative skills, which would remain hitherto unknown on the global platform.

This rug is a beautiful story of the chemistry between the couple who started weaving two different designs on the rug in which Parvati design Lehariya and Bagchand was making the motifs.  Their designs were seen by their neighbors who motivated them to design more of such.

European Product Design Award recognizes the efforts of talented international product designers who aim to improve our daily lives with their practical, well-thought-out creations. EPDA shares their innovative and ground-breaking products with the world.  EPDA awards only product designers and is the only Design Award that is in collaboration with the European Parliament.  All submissions are evaluated by an expert jury of luminaries. The jury committee is comprised of independent designers, clients, design educators and editors who are devoted to brilliance in design. The evaluation is based on a range of criteria that are constantly adapted to current standards.
