Udaipur is well known for its rich culture, heritage and scenic locations. It is one of the favorite film shooting destinations in the world too. Many Hollywood and Bollywood directors have completed and more are planning to complete their projects on the beautiful locations of Udaipur.

There are many local artists who work in these projects. I found myself in an interesting position when I tried to examine the hard ships these supporting actors do face. Unbelievably, there are more than 200 such artists in Udaipur.

An attempt was made to analyze the hardships in the life of one Mr. Lalesh Meghwal, who has recently played the ‘Chitragupt’s role in the locally shot movie Chalo Samhalkar Raho Samhal Kar .

He has worked with Jaipur Doordarshan and also co-acted with Govinda, Raza Murad and the Slum dog Millionaire fame actor Dev Patel in the Hollywood movie The Best Exotic Marie Gold Hotel.

Born in Rajasthan’s small city Pali on the 4^th of Jan.1960, Lalesh is an AIR artist who won President’s Bravery award(1992) for saving three lives in Pichola lake, whereas his achievements include Maharana Mewar award (1992) honored by the Collector(1990) and best actor award by West Zone Cultural Centre ,Udaipur. He’s the founder of Arawali Sansthan Reg.1995(N.G.O.) well known for it’s projects on social awareness in Udaipur.

Lalesh faced the hardships since his childhood. His family includes his wife Suman, daughter Bhavna and his son Jonny. Together they have acted in hundreds of projects like Bol Jhamure, Maa, Safar,Teesri Sadi Kalpvraksh, Karmraj ki Adalat’ and The Kidnapped Princess. Whereas they have also acted in more than 50 Nukkad-Nataks, family planning, AIDS awareness programs.

Apart from their achievements I enquired about their financial reward, I was surprised to know that the projects are earning but these artists are getting only 60% of their actual salary receipt mentioned amount.

The agents and brokers who engage them with the work are paid with a heavy fee. The same case is reported with projects based on Mumbai film units. The artist could not pay with the agents .This made him lose various projects because he could not compromise with the situations.

We just need to raise the voice and Government must do the justice .This is the time when these broker –agent parasites must be fetched from our local artists so that they may get full payment and come out with more creative and socially profitable projects based on Udaipur city .
