The basic working methodology and lack of public awareness bring a lot of confusion to the common public when anything related to the government policies, schemes or campaigns comes up in order to benefit a common man.

Unfortunately the benefits schemes meant for public never reach to the right hands and the needy finds him not less than a tennis ball, on either side of court thrown by a few babus.

Out of all these common mayhem, one man came as a savior to these confused, helpless and needy people to give them assistance and consultation of what and how to do?

Madan Mohan Taunk, a retired senior Hydro Geologist is providing a unique and free help desk service to guide any person who needs to know basic information or procedure regarding tribal schemes, nagar palika, widow pension, old age pension schemes or any govt. policy meant for individual’s benefit.

Taunk, after his retirement on 30th September 2011 started this unique service from his home at Ashok Nagar. “I worked for ground water department for 10 years, then in UNICEF’s ‘swachh’ movement for several years and all this time I came across many people who just run here and there for the required information.”

“Since I used to feel pity on them I developed a habit of helping them too but I decided to start it with core dedication once I retire and here I am,” he said.

Madan Mohan Taunk was recently featured in one of the reputed Hindi daily published in Udaipur and since then he has started receiving 5-10 phone calls daily and many have even visited him personally with their problems.

While talking to UT, Taunk said, “There was a case I solved recently of a widow who was getting a pension of Rs.200/- as her husband used to work in PWD. He had retired in 1973 and then died in 1991. The pension amount of Rs.200 was not only less but also inappropriate according to the latest revival. ”

“But when they approached the authorities they asked for LPC (Last Payment Certificate). The family could not succeed in getting LPC as the person had passed away years ago. Then I went to PWD and asked them to search the file of that particular person. We got the LPC and now the widow is getting more than Rs.2000/- per month as pension.”

The fervent reader of author Narendra Kohli, Madan M. Taunk wants to reach more such people and hope that government authorities will also help him. He said, “I suggest them to set up a help desk at the office of the collectorate similar to what we have at MB Hospital and Udiapol Bus Stand. I am ready to help them and I have no intention of taking any personal advantage from it.”

Taunk has three children; his elder daughter is settled in US while his youngest son is studying in US and his second daughter is in Chennai. “I don’t need money, all my children are well settled and I have enough to live happily with my wife.”

He continued, “But there are many needy and helpless people who despite of taking benefits of several individual schemes introduced by the government are vulnerably roaming here and there.”

When asked about the reason of such problems Madan Mohan said, “Corruption is one of the reasons we cannot ignore, the other big reason is lack of awareness and mismanagement and shortage of technically updated staff and resources. Most of the government websites are either not updated or they are showing wrong information.”

Besides this social work, Taunk is also the General Secretary of Veer Shiromani Maharana Pratap Samiti where he is undertaking office works and publications regarding upcoming mega project of Maharana Pratap Memorial at Badi, near Udaipur.

Needless to say how devoted Madan Mohan Taunk is for his consultation services which he is offering without any charge but more important is to see how and when the authorities will realize the problem of a common man?
