Vidya Bhawan Polytechnic College in association with Center for Policy Research (CPR) is organizing a national level workshop on Sanitation “GIS for Sanitation and Health: Mapping Experiences from the Field” on 20th Sept at the college auditorium.

The workshop will bring two teams from Udaipur and Balasore together to research, discuss and share their experiences on poor sanitation in their cities. It will also help to inform and support state and city governments in modifying their urban sanitation program.

Anil Mehta, Principal of Vidya Bhawan Polytechnic informed, “Several renowned researchers from all over the country are going to take part in the workshop.

The first session of the workshop will be addressed by R Seetharaman, Center for Policy Research, Bibhas Mahapatra and KB Rajni from Balasore GIS Team and Anil Mehta and Bhagwati Tailor from Udaipur.

In the second session,  Prakhar Jain, (Centre for Policy Research), G S Tank, Former Chairman, RPSC, Dr. F.S Mehta, Dean ,Geetanjali Medical College, Paras Singhvi, Chairman Sanitation Committee, D K Gaur, SE ,PHED,  Shishir Kant Varshney, SE, Nagar Nigam, Mukesh Sharma, Sanjeev Sharma, Ex-En, UIT, B L Mantri, Dr. Arun Chaturvedi & other distinguished invitees will put forward their concerns.

Anil Mehta informed, “A full scale mapping of the two cities using GIS/Google earth is carried out to understand the spatial dynamics between the water, sanitation and health related services. Since urban sanitation sector is also an integral part of the overall urban sector policy, this initiative hopes to understand waste management, topographical, environmental and socio-economic diversity across the city’s urban landscape. This mapping also intends to look into the city sanitation plan as an integral part of the city development plan.”
