OBITUARY: Heartfelt Tribute and Homage to Dr Taru Surana (R.A.S) on First Death Anniversary

Dr Taru. a principled officer exemplifying courage and determination, succumbed to  dengue myocarditis on Oct 5, 2024.

Udaipur, Oct 5, 2025: Dr. Taru Surana, breathed her last at the early age of 42 years due to dengue myocarditis. Taru held a Ph.D. in Sociology and also was the first and only woman from the Udaipur region to top the state rankings amongst women in the RAS examination.

In her short career span of just 14 years, she exemplified a rare blend of unwavering honesty and integrity, moral courage, and compassionate public service, which she delivered with utmost sincerity and dedication. She served on impactful postings in Udaipur—serving as SDM at Amet, Railmagra, Garhi, Deputy Director of Women and Child Development, LAO UIT, Senior Manager/ED at RSMML, Director of TRI, and Collector & DIG for Registration and Stamp.

A principled officer can reshape the system through courage and commitment; this has been her tireless pursuit in every position she held.

  • CBSE Regional Topper - St. Mary's Convent Senior Secondary School, Udaipur. Awarded the Maharana Mewar Foundation Maharana Fateh Singh Award
  • University Gold Medal (M.A. Sociology) and UGC-NET
  • Ph.D. With the prestigious ICSSR Fellowship in Sociology, her research on the social mobility of adolescent girls influenced national policies, including the National Skill Development Policy 2014.

Like a tree, which her name 'Taru' signifies, she kept her head high in honesty, her feet firmly on the ground in humility, and was always a source of shade and support for all.

Her legacy continues to inspire.
