[Obituary] Indu Dave (1920-2012)

Dr.(Mrs.) Indu Dave (1920-2012), retired Professor of Education at the G.S. Teacher’s Training College, Udaipur, passed away at the age of 92 on August 14th, 2012.

One of the most accomplished women on the Indian scene, she received a U.S. Fulbright Scholarship to go to the U.S., via a Steam Ship, in 1957 to pursue her higher education and Doctorate at the University of Michigan.

She came back to her Training College in 1960 in Udaipur, but, as brilliant as she was, the University of California at Los Angeles invited her for a Visiting Faculty appointment again in 1961.  Inspite of their insistence for a full-time permanent appointment, she chose to return back to Udaipur again in 1962 and continued her educational, teaching and writing while at the Training College as a Professor of Education.

Her husband , T.L. Dave, had passed away in November 2006 after an illustrious career as a devoted, exceptional teacher of English at Vidya Bhawan.

She is survived by two sons: Arvind Dave, Ex-Governor of four States and his wife, Meenakshi Dave and Ashok Dave, who has been settled in Los Angeles since 1967 and his wife MaryBeth.  Both Arvind and Meenakshi were by her bed side during her last several months of life.  Ashok visited his parents every year for the last 40 years.

May God bless both Mr. and Mrs. Dave.  Also, may their contributions to enhance the education of children and adults alike in Udaipur be remembered forever.  Arvind and Meenakshi also wish to thank all the friends and supporters of the Family for the last six (6) decades!
