The sudden demise of 73 year old Chairman of DB Corp Ltd, Ramesh Chandra Agarwal has caused ripples in the media fraternity. Agarwal died of a cardiac arrest today at while under treatment at Apollo Hospital, Ahmedabad.
As per reports, Agarwal was travelling from Rajkot to Ahmedabad, and on landing at Ahmedabad airport, he had a cardiac arrest, after which he was taken to Apollo Hospital. His death takes away one of the most renowned and respected icons if the global media industry.
Ranked 95th in the Forbes list of richest Indians in 2012, Agarwal led the Dainik Bhaskar board for more than four decades, and had been awarded the Rajiv Gandhi Life Time Achievement award for journalism. He also held the post of Chairman, FICCI, Madhya Pradesh.
Agarwal’s respect in the industry was due to the fact that he turned an inherited single town hindi newspaper into a media powerhouse while at the helm of DB. An MA in political Science from Bhopal University, Agarwal had been a member of the DB Board since December 2005.
Several leaders and industrialists have paid their homage to the media icon.
