Physically Impaired can now get License to drive a Car

Ravindra Pandey, a physically disabled man from Udaipur had dreamt of driving a car but he could not fulfill his dream as there was no car available for a person with impaired limbs.

Pandey did not lose hope and invented a tool, which could control and drive a car by the movement of fingers.  Pandey’s instrument got patented by Government of India in year 2011.

Informing more about the achievement, Dr. B. P Nandwana, Dean of CTAE, Udaipur informed that Ravindra Pandey contacted CTAE’s TCF cell that helps such innovative ideas turn into reality through the entrepreneurial route.  CTAE tested the product and sent it to different government organizations like Technology and Information Forecasting Assessment Council (TIFAC) for research and evaluation.

The product was approved by all organizations and a sum of Rs. 3 Lac was granted to Pandey by TIFAC as an aid for commercialization.

The invention was also sent to the Automotive Research Association, Pune and has been approved as an ideal tool for physically disabled people who wish to drive a car.

After getting tested and approved by all major organizations, the last challenge now is the Department of Transport, which will issue registration and license to a physically disabled driver.  CTAE has sent an application to the department’s Head Office in Jaipur and recently in February 2014 the product was even approved by the Department of Transport.

Dr. S.M. Mathur, Professor and Coordinator at CTAE has informed that now disabled people can install this tool in their car and get a license from the RTO.
