32 year old model, Bollywood and television actress Poonam Pandey succumbed to Cervical Cancer as per her Insta page post on 2 February.
The 'news' of her demise was communicated by her Manager to media and shared on her Instagram profile. Her Manager told media that Poonam was diagnosed with Cervical Cancer, which came to light only when it was in the last stage.
Poonam made her Bollywood debut with Nasha (2013) and tried her hand South Indian movies and television shows. She came into public limelight after making a bold statement during the 2011 Cricket ICC World Cup.
Poonam, born on 11 March 1991 in Kanpur, bagan her career as a model and was among the top 9 contestants at the Galdrags Manhunt and Megamodel Contest and also appeared on the cover of the Gladrags Magazine. She has led a life full of controversy and her social media following was a result of her bold personality reflected in her movies, photos and controversies.
Cervical Cancer is the second most prevalent Cancer among women in India and as per a WHO report, the new cases of Cervical Cancer among Indian women is 17.7 percent. However, this highlights the need for the HPV vaccine, which, when taken by girls before puberty can prevent its occurence in the first place.
