The 28-year-old Bharani Vaniyer had no plan to visit Udaipur but call it a mere coincidence that this Pune rider reached Udaipur today during his All India Exploration Journey on his Vespa Scooter.
Covering almost 2000km, Bharani is expecting to celebrate the New Year Eve in Nepal by travelling through Rajasthan, Punjab, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. He will return back through East Indian states via South Eastern states and will take a route back to his home.
Fond of traveling, Bharani started his journey on 4th Dec though his friends were not sure that he could complete this journey on a gearless Vespa scooter.
“I sold my Enfield and bought Vespa. Few of my friends were unhappy anout my decision but I enjoyed riding Vespa till now” said Bharani.
When asked what is the motive of this journey? He said, “Exploring World Heritage Sites and meeting my friends who are scattered all over India. I have friends everywhere and meeting them is really going to be a lifetime moment for me.”
Studied Chemical Engineering, Bharani is presently assisting his father in their family business. “Travelling is one of my passion and I often used to visit Shirdi, Lonawala and nearby places on my motorbike” said Bharani a fitness freak.
Interestingly, not many people know about this self funded tour nor Bharani wants media attention but expects Piaggio Vespa to support underprivileged children on his behalf. “I don’t want financial help but if Vespa thinks my journey is worth noticing then I request them to do some CSR activities for children on behalf of this journey.”
About performance of Vespa, Bharani informed that the scooter is great and performed above expectation; mileage was around 40-50km and engine performance was amazing. He maintained the speed of 60-80 km/hr but also touched 100km at some places still the scooter was smooth and sturdy.
Bharani targeted to ride 300 km per day but has also covered 500km. “I take breaks in every 2-3 hours. I meet people, learn their culture and enjoy the journey. It’s not about destination; it’s about journey and so I am not carrying maps or route chart with me.”
In Udaipur, Bharani reached the newly opened Vespa Showroom at Fatehpura and did servicing. He was warmly welcomed by Adnan and Aziz Mustafa, owners of the showroom.
“It is our pleasure to receive Bharani at our showroom and after knowing about his journey we felt so great” said Adnan.
Aziz Mustafa told UT that, often people think Vespa is a feminine beauty but surprisingly out of more than 40 scooters we sold, none of the female purchased Vespa from us.
When asked Bharani Vaniyer what motivated him to go for this journey on Vespa he said that, “One of my friends told me that Vespa is a girly scooter. This triggered me to take the challenge and today, I am in Udaipur on Vespa. I have been preparing myself for the last 2 months for this journey and Vespa has not failed anywhere so far. My only concern will be its performance on Himalayan roads as my next destination is Leh.”
Let us hope his journey ahead to distant places and back to his home will be one-of-its kind infused with priceless moments.
