Self taught artist Anurag Mehta’s magical artwork coupled with his beautiful imagination makes his paintings an ideal eye-candy for the audience. Interestingly, each of his paintings run under the theme of “Save the Heritage Buildings”.

Greatly inspirited by the royal architecture of Udaipur, 39-year-old Anurag has made remarkable impressions of the same on the canvas using only water colours.

Science graduate Anurag has no formal training in field of art nor does he have ancestry linked to the field. Yet, the paintings come out as pieces of magic depicting enchanting images of Udaipur, its forts, palaces and lakes.

“I have made around 20 paintings on Udaipur’s heritage buildings, its architecture and minute stone work. The architectural excellence here leaves me spellbound”, said Anurag.

Besides Udaipur, Anurag has also worked on other parts of Rajasthan.  He said that he enjoyed painting City Palace, Lake Palace, Gangaur Ghat and Pichola. Besides, Mehrangarh Fort (Jodhpur) and Amer Fort(Jaipur) are some of his other favorites.

When asked what disappoints him the most whenever he visits palaces and lakes, Anurag  was prompt to point out lack of cleanliness.

“No doubt Udaipur is beautiful because of its heritage buildings and monuments. However, there is lack of proper care and cleanliness which might turn off tourists”, says Anurag.

Anurag, in each of his paintings, tries to give message of preserving the heritage buildings and preserving the originality of the city.

“It is our duty to keep our heritage clean and secure. For this, civilians need to come forward and spread awareness” said Anurag Mehta.
