June 26, 2025 - Indian cricket team's T20I captain, Suryakumar Yadav, has undergone sports hernia surgery in Germany. On the night of June 25, Surya shared a photo from the hospital on his Instagram account to inform everyone. In his post, he wrote he is recovering well and will return to the field soon.
After Rohit Sharma retired from T20 cricket, the BCCI made the 34-year-old Surya the captain of the T20 team. He gave an update about his health through a post.
Surya wrote:
“Life update – underwent sports hernia surgery in the lower right part of the abdomen. Happy to inform that after successful surgery, I am on the road to recovery. Looking forward to returning to the cricket field.”
This is not the first time Surya has had sports hernia surgery. He had the same surgery earlier in 2024. Before that, he also had ankle surgery in 2023.
The Indian team is scheduled to tour Bangladesh in August to play a T20I series. The series will begin on August 26 and the last match will be played on August 31. There are still two months left, but if Surya is not fully fit, he may miss the series. In his absence, vice-captain Axar Patel may lead the team.
